Any student between the ages of 14-17 is invited to apply for flight training scholarships to be awarded at Airport Day Saturday, May 21, 2022.

This scholarship is specifically for flight training conducted at Santa Ynez Valley Airport by an authorized flight instructor or flight school in an appropriately certified powered aircraft or glider.


The scholarship has the following significant requirements:


  • The training must be conducted during the summer break (June to September) 2022.
  • The training must take place in its entirety during a 30-day period as recent experience in flight training maximizes learning success.
  • The scholarship amount may enable a well-motivated student with good learning skills the necessary experience and training the opportunity to solo.
  • Applicants must reside within the
    area served by the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School district.

Some of the other items you will need to provide in addition to the scholarship application are:


  • A completed application.
  • A maximum 500-word essay on your needs for training, your experiences and your aspirations.
  • Three letters of recommendations from adults who know you (i.e. Teacher, Pastor, close family friend, aeronautical professional, etc., one of whom must be an educator)
  • Selected scholarship finalists must be available for a one-hour interview during the week of May 6th.
